Review:
A LEGO Star Wars Halloween special sounds like a fun idea and the Christmas special they released in 2020 was an entertaining effort but this venture is pretty forgettable. The whimsical story features Poe Dameron and BB-8 crash landing on the planet Mustafar where they discover that Graballa the Hutt is planning on turning Darth Vader's castle into a hotel and Vader's former servant Vaneé has plans of his own. Throughout the story we also get three "terrifying tales" none of which are remotely spooky even for small kids though it was nice to see stories representing all three of the Star Wars Eras: Original, Prequel and Sequel trilogies and the title of each story is done in the font of other horror properties. I was disappointed that these weren't more unique spooky tales, they didn't have to be super scary but mildly eerie would have been nice, instead they are mostly comedic and in the case of two of the stories are just different retellings of key moments from the film with some odd twists. The voice cast does a great job with what they are given, Christian Slater voices the original leader of the Knights of Ren and Emmy-winner Tony Hale voices Vader's servant Vaneé. There are a ton of horror movie references that are fun to catch for the viewer and most will go over the heads of kids but overall this just wasn't very memorable and I don't think this is one I'll be rewatching any time soon.
