Review:

Offerings tries to come across as another slasher flick paying homage in particular to John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) but it ends up really just being a pale imitation. The similarities are really too many to be an homage and the film really comes across as a copy featuring a mute killer who escapes from an asylum and proceeds to return to his home town where he embarks on a series of killings. Even the score is a rip-off of the iconic Halloween score. With that being said, Offerings is not a bad film, the cast is surprisingly good considering how many of them were newcomers to acting and many of them did not go on to do any other films, but Loretta Leigh Bowman as the lead and also G. Michael Smith as the Sheriff were both very good and memorable. Mark Massey as the weird Intern at the cemetery is also memorable in his brief scene that was yet another copycat sequence from Halloween. The cinematography is done quite well considering the low-budget and the special effects, though few and far between, are handled well when they are utilized. Throughout the 1980s audiences were inundated with a seemingly endless wave of slasher films and many of them have since been forgotten, Offerings is certainly worth a look for horror enthusiasts provided you don't go in expecting anything groundbreaking from the proceedings.
