Review:
Barely connected to the previous Amityville films, with only brief allusions to the town's supernatural history and not even featuring the famous 112 Ocean Avenue residence, this film instead features an entirely different house that was formerly a rectory and now houses the belongings of a priest who was murdered 12 years prior to the bulk of this film. The story is pretty uninteresting and you have to wonder why Amityville was even tacked onto the title as this really has very little to do with those films. It is loosely based on yet another Amityville novel, but beyond that it really has no ties to the first 4 films. The cast is not impressive and some of them are just dull and uninteresting, Kim Coates may be recognizable to some as he later appeared in stuff like Waterworld (1995), Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010) and on Sons of Anarchy (2008-2014). Also appearing briefly is opera singer turned actor Jan Rubeš as the Priest who is murdered in the opening, Rubeš had a lengthy career as an opera singer before he switched over to acting from around 1980 onward. The other cast members aren't really well known and are a mixed bag, though Helen Hughes as the eccentric Mrs. Moriarty is definitely memorable. The cinematography, special effects and score are all pretty poor and uninteresting and overall the director doesn't manage to pull anything interesting together. The fact that this film has all but disappeared is really no surprise as this is definitely a movie you can skip.
